Subsurface Exploration,Geologic Hazard,and
Janowicz Property Geotechnical Engineering Report
Everett,Washington Geologic Hazards and Mitigations
6.2 Seismically Induced Landslides
As discussed above in "Landslide Hazards and Mitigation," it is our recommendation that in the
vicinity of the landslide hazard area a deep foundation system be used to avoid impacting the
stability of the existing slope.
6.3 Liquefaction
•
liquefaction is a temporary foss in soil shear strength that can occur when loose granular soils
below the groundwater table are exposed to cyclic accelerations, such as those that occur
during earthquakes.
The City of Everett defines seismic and liquefaction hazard areas as:
•
a. Those areas mapped as seismic/liquefaction hazards per the Dames and Moore
Methodology for the Inventory, Classification and Designation of Geologically
Hazardous Areas;City of Everett,Washington:July 1, 1991.
b. Those areas mapped as high and moderate to high liquefaction susceptibility on the
Liquefaction Susceptibility Map of Snohomish County, Washington, Washington
State Department of Natural Resources,Palmer,Stephen,et al.,September, 2004.
On the Dames and Moore map, the site is not shown within an area of Potential Seismic
Hazard. On the Liquefaction Susceptibility Map, the site is mapped as very low liquefaction
susceptibility.
Based on subsurface conditions observed in our exploration borings site soils pose a low risk of
liquefaction-induced settlements due to the high silt content and relative density and
consistency of the underlying non-glacial sediments. No quantitative liquefaction analysis was
completed as part of this study, and none is warranted, in our opinion.
6.4 Ground Motion
Structural design of buildings should follow the current applicable building code. In our
opinion, the native soils at the site are consistent with seismic Site Class "D" as defined in
Table 1613.5.2 of the 2015 International Building Code (IBC), and the publication ASCE 7 -
Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures referenced therein.
May 10,2018 ASSOCIATED EARTH SCIENCES,INC.
NSM-170649E7X72-2-Projectr1201706491KE1WP Page 8
