The
loading criteria on Sheet S001 should be revised. See IBC Section 1607.12.3.1.
5. Note 10 on Sheets S211a through S211c state a shear load as"[2000LBS] The magnitude of
the load and units (i.e., total load or load per-linear-foot) should be verified. A detail should be
provided in the drawings showing the required connections between the trusses, roof
diaphragm, and shear wall. See IBC Sections 1603.1.8.
6. Calculation page SC115 specifies 2x8 framing that is Grade DFL #1. The table of solid wood
lumber in the "Wood Framing'section of the Structural General Notes on Sheet 5003 does not
include this size and grade, and should be revised. See IBC Section 1072.1.
7. Sheet A208 and Sections 14/A412 and 15/A412 appear to show steel-framed canopies on at
Grids S-A/S-7 — S-8 and S-C/S-7 — S-8. Documentation substantiating the design of the
canopies should be submitted for review. Where the canopy relies on the main building
structure for support, documentation substantiating the design of the supporting framing and
connections should be submitted for review. See IBC Sections 107.2.1, 1603.1, 1604.1,
1604.4, 1609.1.1, and 1613.1, and ASCE 7-10 Sections 1.4 and 12.1.3.
8. Sheet S207a shows six architectural columns near Grid S-A that extend to and partially support
steel-framed canopies at the fourth story. See Sheet A211a and the isometric views on Sheet
A900. Documentation substantiating the design of the canopies should be submitted for
review. Where the canopy relies on the main building structure for support, documentation
substantiating the design of the supporting framing and connections should be submitted for
review. See IBC Sections 107.2.1, 1603.1, 1604.1, 1604.4, 1609.1.1, and 1613.1, and ASCE 7-
10 Sections 1.4 and 12.1.3.
9. The project includes cantilever canopies in the parking area per Sheet A100b. The design for
the canopies should be included in the structural drawings. Calculations substantiating the
design should be submitted for review. See IBC Sections 1603.1 and 1604.1.
10.The vertical design of all gravity and lateral framing shall include the vertical earthquake
component per ASCE 7-10 Sections 12.4.1, 12.4.2, and 12.4.2.2. See other comments below
regarding the design of structural framing and systems throughout the structure. See IBC
Section 1613.1.
Foundation System:
11. Note 5 on Sheets S207a and S207b specifies the top of footings as X'-X". It appears an actual
elevation is intended. The note should be revised as needed. See IBC Section 1603.1.
12.The"Soils and Foundations" section of the Structural General Notes on Sheet S001 indicates
that the foundation system consists of shallow footings and slabs-on-grade. See also Note 6
on Sheets S207a and S207b. However, the foundation sections on Sheets S301 and S302
indicate that portions of the foundation system may be supported on piles. It is anticipated
that rigid ground improvements may be intended. Foundations that do not effectively bear on
the soil do not qualify as shallow foundations per IBC Section 1809.2.
