GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING ECHN L ENG NEERIN SERVICES
ROCKEFELLER APARTMENTS
EVERETT,WASHINGTON
INTRODUCTION
This report presents the results of our geotechnical engineering services for the proposed Rockefeller
Apartments building. The location of the site is shown on the Vicinity Map,Figure 1. The approximate
footprint of the proposed building with respect to existing structures is shown on the Site Plan,Figure 2.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project site is located on the east side of Rockefeller Avenue between 25th Street and 261 Street in
Everett, Washington. The site is occupied by five existing residential structures. The existing homes
will be demolished in order to construct the proposed apai tinent building. We understand that the large
deciduous tree on the west side of the property will not be removed and will be protected during
construction.
We understand the proposed apartment building will be four-and-one-half stories high with one level of
below-grade parking. We also understand that the excavation for the building will extend about 8 feet
below the existing ground surface along the west side and will be constructed near existing grades along
the east side. Anticipated dead and live loads, excluding foundation weight, are 45 kips and 25 kips for
exterior columns, 165 kips and 85 kips for interior columns, and 4 and 1.5 kips per foot for basement
walls.
PURPOSE AND SCOPE
11 The purpose of our services is to evaluate soil and groundwater conditions at the site as a basis for
developing design criteria for the geotechnical aspects of the proposed apartment building. Our services
were completed in accordance with our proposal dated October 5,2005.
FIELD EXPLORATIONS AND LABORATORY TESTING
1 FIELD EXPLORATIONS
The subsurface conditions at the site were evaluated by excavating and sampling six test pits, TP-1
through TP-6, to depths of 4Y2 to 10 feet below existing site grades. The locations of the test pits are
shown on the Site Plan,Figure 2.
11 Locations of the test pits were selected by Joe Zlab. Elevations of the test pits were estimated from the
site survey map provided by Pacific Geomatic Services, Inc., which was used as our base map for
Figure 2. The respective ground surface elevations are shown on the logs in Appendix A. Appendix A
includes logs of the test pits (Figures A-2 through A-7) and details of the subsurface explorations
performed.
LABORATORY TESTING
Soil samples were collected from each test pit, taken to our laboratory and examined to confirm or
modify field classifications, as well as to evaluate engineering properties of the soil.
