April 8, 2014
John & ]anet Berg
2203 E Grand Ave
Everett, WA 98201
Re: Backwater Valve Installation at 2203 E Grand Ave
Dear Mr. & Mrs. Berg:
The City's contractor, Steve's Plumbing, inspected your plumbing and drainage on September
23, 2013 to determine if a backwater valve is appropriate for your property. Their findings
indicate that installing a backwater valve on your property would be beneficial. Please review
the enclosed report.
Previously, you signed the Backwater Valve Authorization Form authorizing the City to install
a backwater valve at your property. Based on the inspection report, we are proceeding with
the installation. The Ciri's contractar Archer Construction will be contactina vou in
March to schedule the work. This will require some excavation on your property.
Tlie City will provide you on-site training on the operation and maintenance of the backwater
valve. Maintenance of the valve and the plumbing, sewer, and drainage on your property are
your responsibility. The inspedion identified additional site drainage and plumbing
deficiencies in your private drainage and plumbing system. These include:
. The side sewer has a belly in the line and should be relined or replaced
• The potential future addition to the south of the house may need a backwater valve
installed at the time that a side sewer is conneded to prevent surcharges
These deficiencies are your responsibility to address, as you desire.
If you have any questions about this process, please contact Grant Moen at 425-257-8947 or
gmoen evcrettwa.gov, or Brian Doolan at 925-257-8828 or bdoolanCeverettwa.gov. Thank
you for your interest in our backwater valve program.
Sincerely,
Grant Moen
Projed Manager
Everett Public Works
