- . - ORDINANCE NO. 3411 AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING A HEALTH CERTIFICATE FOR PERSONS HANDLING FOOD OR DRINK OR CLEANING UTENSILS IN CONNECTION THEREWITH IN ANY BAKERY, RESTAURANT, FOUNTAIN, MILK PROCESSING AND/OR MILK DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM: PROHIBITING ANY PERSON FROM EMPLOYING ONE NOT HOLDING A VALID HEALTH CERTIFICATE: AND PROVIDING FOR PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION THEREOF. WHEREAS, it is deemed necessary for the protection of the public health that a uniform check be made of all persons handling certain types of food for human consumption, and WHEREAS, said check can only be made by requring such persons to take a health examination, NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: Section 1: It shall be unlawful for any person to employ any person, or for any person to handle food or clean utensils in connection therewith, in any bakery, restaurant, fountain, milk processing and/or milk distribution system, whether wholesale or retail, for a period of not more than four (4) days unless that person shall secure a valid `City Health Certificate" issued by the Health Officer of the City of Everett, or Temporary City Health Certificate which is unexpired. Section 2: Any person desiring a City Health Certificate shall: (a) Submit to such physical examination as the Health Officer shall require in order to determine the applicant 's physical con- dition with reference to the handling of food for human consumption. Such examin- ation shall include a chest X-ray examination for tuberculosis. (b) Make application to the Health Officer of the City of Everett upon forms provided by the City Health Officer. In event it shall appear that the applicant is free from any con- tagious diseases and is not infected with any disease which will affect general sanitation, a City Health Certificate shall be issued by the City Health Officer to the applicant. Section 3: The Health Officer may require a health examination to be taken by a holder of a City Health Certificate at any time during the year, when, in his opinion, such is necessary for the protection of the health of the general public. Such exam- ination shall be given without further charge to the applicant. Section 4: All City Health Certificates shall expire one year from the date of issuance.
