'" PUBLIC WORKSt4a, kJ J{ J March 9, 2011 Russell Divers 1411 Oakes Avenue Everett, Washington 98201 Re: Plumbing Investigation at 1411 Oakes Avenue for Backwater Valve Program Dear Mr. Divers: The City of Everett's contractor, Seattle Drain Services, inspected the plumbing and drainage at your property on November 18, 2010, to determine if a backwater valve is appropriate for you residence. Enclosed is a summary of their findings. The report recommends replacing a section of your side sewer and adjusting the current backwater valve to provide adequate fall so that the system can function properly to reduce the risk of basement flooding from sewer backups. The City will work to remedy this problem as part of the backwater valve program. Please review the report and contact us with any questions. The next step is for you to confirm that you want to proceed with the program. To do that, please call Grant Moen at (425) 257-8947 and confirm your desire to have the City coordinate and fund the replacement of a section of your side sewer and the adjustment of your back water valve. After receiving your authorization, we will hire a contractor to do this work in accordance with the installation and maintenance agreement documents you previously signed. If you choose to proceed, the contractor will contact you to schedule the repairs. However, this is still a few weeks away. At the conclusion of the work, the excavation will be refilled and hardened surfaces (driveways and/or sidewalks) will be restored. You will also be provided on-site training on the operation and maintenance of the valve. Restoration of grass, plants and landscaping are your responsibility. The report also identifies deficiencies in your plumbing, sewer and drainage system. This includes: • Ramp access to the basement allows yard water to run freely into the basement.
