May 18, 2011
Eddie & David Swale
1615 Rainier Avenue
Everett, Washington 98201
Re: Plumbing Investigation at 1615 Rainier Avenue for Backwater Valve Program
Dear Eddie & David Swale:
The City of Everett's contractor, Seattle Drain Services, inspected your property on
January 24th, 2011 to determine if a backwater valve is appropriate for your residence.
Enclosed is a summary of their findings.
The report recommends the installation of a backwater valve on the side sewer that
connects your home to the City's sewer main to reduce the risk of basement flooding.
There are several backwater valve location options presented in the report. If you would
like to proceed with the program, please call Grant Moen at (25) 257-8947 to specify
which option you choose. Please review the report and contact us with any questions.
The next step is for you to confirm that you want to proceed with the program. To do
that, simply sign the enclosed release forms in the presence of a notary and return them
to the City of Everett, attention Grant Moen, preferably prior to June 1, 2011. After we
receive those forms, the City will hire a contractor to install the backwater valve in
accordance with the enclosed installation and maintenance agreement documents.
If you choose to proceed, the contractor will contact you to schedule the installation.
However, this is still a few weeks away. At the conclusion of the work, the excavation
will be refilled and hardened surfaces (driveways and/or sidewalks) will be restored. You
will also be provided on-site training on the operation and maintenance of the valve.
Restoration of grass, plants and landscaping are your responsibility.
The report also identifies the following problem with the drainage system at this
residence:
• The downspouts are connected to the side sewer under the basement floor
(problem identified #2).
Future storm damages related to these and other system deficiencies are your
responsibility. We therefore recommend that you take steps to correct these problems ,
and that you regularly inspect your plumbing, sewers, and drainage systems to ensure
that they are working correctly.
1/
