Document the results of our findings, conclusions, and recommendations in a written
geotechnical report.
SITE CONDITIONS
Surface Conditions
The property consists of a rectangular, roughly 0.9-acre parcel that is generally level. The site is currently
vacant and is vegetated with scattered weeds and brush. The property is bounded to the north and east by
residential condominium/apartment properties,to the west by 9th Avenue West, and to the south by a self-
storage unit complex. It is our understanding that minor grading had occurred in the past on this site to
remove most of the topsoil from the property. We did not observe surface water within the site during our
site visit on October 29,2014.
Subsurface Conditions
Geology: The geologic units for this site are shown on the Geologic Map of the Everett 7.5-Minute
Quadrangle, Snohomish County, Washington by James P. Minard, (1985). The site is mapped as Qvt
(Vachon till). The till is described as a non-sorted mixture of clay, silt, sand, pebbles, cobbles, and
boulders. Our explorations within the site generally encountered surficial topsoil underlain by till at
depth.
Explorations: The subsurface conditions within the site were explored on Wednesday, October 29, 2014
by excavating six test pits to depths ranging from 6.3 to 9.7 feet below the existing ground surface. The
approximate locations of our explorations are shown on the Site Plan in Figure 2. A geologist from NGA
was present during the explorations, examined the soils and geologic conditions encountered, obtained
samples of the different soil types, and maintained logs of the test pits.
The soils were visually classified in general accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System,
presented in Figure 3. The logs of our test pits are attached to this report and are presented as Figures 4
and 5. We present a brief summary of the subsurface conditions in the following paragraphs. For a
detailed description of the subsurface conditions, the test pit logs should be reviewed.
At the surface of Test Pits 1 and 2, which were located in the area of the planned building, we
encountered approximately 0.1 feet of surficial weeds/scattered grasses. Below the weeds, we
encountered approximately 0.7 feet of medium dense, orange-brown, silty, fine to medium sand with
roots and iron-oxide staining. We interpreted this material as weathered glacial till. Below the weathered
NELSON GEOTECHNICAL ASSOCIATES, INC.
