Depth of side sewer 10ft from house: 10' 3" <br /> Depth of side sewer at proposed B/W valve installation spot 9' 5" <br /> Any additional comments: <br /> • Some of the rain gutter drains are already disconnected. All should be <br /> disconnected at this location. <br /> • Side sewer has significant build up in line and should be cleaned to prevent <br /> future blockages from debris. <br /> Problems Identified <br /> 1) This home does not currently have a backwater valve to prevent sewer backups <br /> during high flow surcharge events. <br /> Solution A: Install backwater valve downstream (closer to the street) of downspout drain <br /> line and exterior floor drain connections to side sewer. All downspouts must be <br /> disconnected and routed to splash blocks per Problems Identified #3 below to avoid <br /> flooding from downspout drainage when the backwater valve is closed (see also <br /> Problems Identified #2 below). <br /> Solution B: Install backwater valve upstream of all downspout and exterior drain <br /> connections. Exterior floor drain at bottom of stairs would need to be disconnected from <br /> the downspout lines, and a sump pump would need to be installed per Solution B for <br /> Problem Identified #2 below for this backwater valve placement to function correctly. <br /> 2) Exterior floor drain at base of the stairs is tied to downspouts will back up and flood if <br /> during a surcharge event.
