February 25, 2011
David Floyd
805 Waverly Avenue
Everett, Washington 98201
Re: Plumbing Investigation for Backwater Valve Program
Dear Mr. Floyd:
The City of Everett's contractor, Seattle Drain Services, inspected your property on
December 7, 2010,. to determine if a backwater valve is appropriate for you residence.
Enclosed is a summary of their findings.
The report recommends the installation of a backwater valve on the side sewer that
connects your home to the City's sewer main to reduce the risk of basement flooding
from sewer backups. Please review the report and contact us with any questions.
The next step is for you to confirm that you want to proceed with the program. To do
that, simply sign and return the enclosed release forms. When we receive those forms,
we will hire a contractor to install the backwater valve in accordance with the installation
and maintenance agreement documents you previously signed.
If you choose to proceed, the contactor will contact you to schedule the installation. At
the conclusion of the work, the excavation will be refilled and hardened surfaces
(driveways and/or sidewalks) will be restored. You will also be provided on-site training
on the operation and maintenance of the valve. Restoration of grass, plants and
landscaping are your responsibility.
The report also identifies deficiencies in your plumbing, sewer and drainage system. This
includes:
• Down spouts at front of house are connected to a clogged and broken line and will
not remove water away from house in high water times.
• No accessible cleanout for future maintence.
Future storm damages related to these and other system deficiencies are your
responsibility. We therefore recommend that you take steps to correct these problems
