Is there currently a clean out on the side sewer: Yes, located outside near back of
home.
How many at risk plumbing fixtures below the road surface are there: 5; toilet, sink,
shower, floor drain, stair floor drain.
How many down spouts are currently connected to the sewer: 1 Exact route unknown.
Possibly goes into stairs (cement)
Does side sewer have slope: No. Very flat and reverse grade in some areas.
Depth of side sewer at current Backwater Valve location: 5'1"
Sewer Report:
Material: Cement, but repair area in backyard looks like foam core ABS inside pipe,
which is not sewer pipe. If it is foam core it should not be buried in the ground.
Sewer Length: 76 ft.
Condition: Poor.
Explain: Wrong material used for repair. Would need to dig up the pipe to verify label.
Sewer is flat, holding water 14' to 22' out, major belly at 33' to 49'. Backwater valve is in
alley and is not serviceable as access is not available to surface, no way to fix or clean.
House may not be protected if valve closes. Back stairs drain and one downspout could
flood basement in a surcharge event since it connects to the side sewer upstream of
backwater valve.
Recommend: Replacement of side sewer by trenching.
Any additional comments:
• See Sewer Report Video.
Problems Identified
1) Backwater valve is buried and cannot be maintained. Also, backwater valve may be
in City Right-of-Way.
Solution: Replace existing backwater valve with a new backwater valve that has an
access port to the surface. Confirm that new backwater valve location is not within City
Right-of-Way.
