t t
PUBLIC WORKS
March 9, 2011
Larry Olson
7614 74th Dr NE
Marysville, Washington 98270
Re: Plumbing Investigation at 1524 McDougal Ave, Everett for Backwater Valve Program
Dear Mr. Olson:
The City of Everett's contractor, Seattle Drain Services, inspected the plumbing and
drainage at your property on December 9, 2010, to determine if a backwater valve is
appropriate for your residence. Enclosed is a summary of their findings.
The report shows that there is already a Backwater valve on the private side sewer that
connects your home to the City's sewer main to reduce the risk of basement flooding
from sewer backups. This backwater valve was found to be functioning properly. The City
did not identify any improvements that could be made to your system that would be
eligible under the backwater valve program. However the report does identify some
improvements you, the property owner, could make to further protect your property from
storm events. Please review the report and contact us with any questions.
The report identifies deficiencies in your plumbing, sewer and drainage system. This
includes:
• The floor drain in the garage driveway has the potential to allow sewage to back
up into this area during a surcharge event.
• The old downspout connections could allow sewage to backup into the yard during
a surcharge event.
Future storm damages related to these and other private system deficiencies are your
responsibility. We therefore recommend that you take steps to correct these problems.
CITY OF EVERETT • 3200 Cedar Street • Everett, WA 98201 • (425) 257-8800 • Fax (425) 257-8882
