0 °
PUBLIC WORKS
AILr
`(' (vs.(e `,
April 26, 2012
David Kooister
414 Rockefeller Avenue
Everett, Washington 98201
Re: Plumbing Investigation at 414 Rockefeller Avenue
Dear David,
The City of Everett's contractor, Seattle Drain Services, inspected your plumbing and
drainage on November 14, 2011, to determine if a backwater valve is appropriate for your
property. Their report, which is attached, recommends that a backwater valve is installed
to reduce the risk of basement flooding from sewer backups.
Because of recent basement flooding and that the inspection identified the benefit of a
backwater valve, the City is offering to install the valve. However, some additional private
side sewer improvements are also needed which are your responsibility to allow the
backwater valve to function properly.
Your next step is to confirm that you want to participate in our backwater valve
installation program. If you do, please call Grant Moen at 425-257-8947. We will then hire
a contractor to install the valve if you are also willing to pay for necessary upgrade to
your side sewer. At the conclusion of the work, the excavation will be refilled and
hardened surfaces (driveways and/or sidewalks) will be restored. You will also be
provided training on the operation and maintenance of the valve. Restoration of grass and
landscaping are your responsibility.
Note also that the report identifies a deficiency in your sewer and drainage system that
could lead to problems. This is your responsibility and we recommend that you take steps
to correct it:
• The side sewer is in poor condition and holds water which could cause blockages
in the line.
Thank you for your interest in our backwater valve program. If you have any questions,
please contact Marla Carter (425-257-8875, mcarterc'ci.everett.wa.us) or Grant Moen
(425-257-8947, gmoenna ci.everett.wa.us).
Sincerely,
Mark Sadler
Maintenance Superintendent
Everett Public Works
CITY OF EVERETT • 3200 Cedar Street • Everett, WA 98201 • (425) 257-8800 • Fax (425) 257-8882
