Ery Hoglund
615 Wetmore Ave.
Everett, WA 98201
March 4, 2014
Storm Claims
City of Everett Public Works
3200 Cedar Street
Everett, WA 98201
Ref: Your letter dated February 21,2014.
In regards to the referenced letter, I have decided to install a new sewage pump that will
pump 50 gpm at 25 feet of head. I am in the process of coordinating with a plumbing
company to install the sewage pump.
I believe in being pro-active and on September 23, 2013 I sent an email to the Mayor and
City Council members suggesting two items that would reduce surface water entering the
combined sewer system. Public Works has been recommending"rain gardens"and"rain
barrels"to reduce surface water entering the sewer system. My first suggestion was
having the Everett Community College establish a rain garden on the SW area of the dog
leg on the third fairway of Legion Golf Course. Runoff water from the downspouts on
the buildings on the golf course side of the fairway plus redirecting runoff water from the
expanded parking lot that slops towards Wetmore be directed to the rain garden. With
the tort claim filed by ECC, I believe the rain garden would prevent future claims for
damage as caused during August 29 weather.
My second suggestion in the email was redirecting downspouts on homes that currently
drain into the combined sewer system. Northwest Neighborhood News in February
published a very good article on redirecting downspouts. I suggest Public Works contract
with the Snohomish County PUD and have their meter readers make a note regarding the
status of the homes downspouts as they read the meters. I suggest that the process should
cover the area of Everett in which projects"M" and"N"are planned. This could be
accomplished in two months (electrical meters are read every other month).
Sincerely,
Ery Hoglund k
cc: Mayor Ray Stephenson; City Council President Jeff Moore
