PUBLIC WORKS @gp;11/7 o ' ► . * October 1, 2012 Pat Abby 717 Wetmore Avenue Everett, Washington 98201 Re: Plumbing Investigation at 717 Wetmore Avenue for Backwater Valve Program Dear Mr. Abby: The City of Everett's contractor, Steve's Plumbing, inspected the plumbing and drainage at your property on September 4, 2012, to determine if a backwater valve is appropriate for your residence. Enclosed is a summary of their findings. The report recommends the installation of a backwater valve on the private side sewer that connects your home to the City's sewer main to reduce the risk of basement flooding from sewer backups. Please review the report and contact us with any questions. From previous conversations you have indicated your desire to move forward with the installation of the backwater valve. If you have changed your decision or have any questions or concerns please call Grant Moen at (425) 257-8947 or Brian Doolan at (425) 257-8828 and inform us of your change. The City will hire a contractor to install the backwater valve in accordance with the installation and maintenance agreement documents you previously signed. After the contractor has been selected they will contact you to schedule the installation. However, this is still a few weeks away. At the conclusion of the work, the excavation will be refilled and hardened surfaces (driveways and/or sidewalks) will be restored. You will also be provided on-site training on the operation and maintenance of the valve. Restoration of grass, plants and landscaping are your responsibility. The report also identifies deficiencies in your plumbing, sewer and drainage system. This includes: • Your downspouts will need to be disconnected in order to have the backwater valve function correctly. However, the area around your house may then become wetter.
