<br />DEMOLITION
<br />1. ALL DEMOLITION SHALL BE CARRIED ON IN SUCH A MANNER AS NOT TO DAMAGE
<br />EXISTING ELEMENTS WHICH ARE TO REMAIN A PART OF THE FINISHED STRUCTURE.
<br />2. EXISTING ELEMENTS SHALL BE PROTECTED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT POSSIBLE TO
<br />REDUCE SUCH DAMAGE TO A MINIMUM.
<br />3. ALL ELEMENTS OF THE STRUCTURE THAT ARE TO REMAIN AND WHICH ARE DAMAGED
<br />DURING DEMOLITION WORK SHALL BE REPLACED AT NO ADDED COST.

<br />STRUCTURAL OBSERVATION
<br />1. STRUCTURAL OBSERVATION IS REQUIRED FOR THE STRUCTURAL SYSTEM IN
<br />ACCORDANCE WITH THE GOVERNING CODE. STRUCTURAL OBSERVATION IS THE VISUAL
<br />OBSERVATION OF THE ELEMENTS AND CONNECTIONS OF THE STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS
<br />AT SIGNIFICANT CONSTRUCTION STAGES AND THE COMPLETED STRUCTURE FOR
<br />GENERAL CONFORMANCE TO THE APPROVED PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS. STRUCTURAL
<br />OBSERVATION DOES NOT WAIVE THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE INSPECTIONS REQUIRED
<br />OF THE BUILDING INSPECTOR OR THE DEPUTY INSPECTOR.
<br />2. THE OWNER SHALL EMPLOY AN ENGINEER LICENSED TO PERFORM STRUCTURAL
<br />OBSERVATION IN THE PROJECT JURISDICTION.
<br />3, THE STRUCTURAL OBSERVER SHALL PROVIDE A LETTER TO BE SUBMITTED TO THE
<br />BUILDING OFFICIAL, AS REQUIRED BY THE JURISDICTION, BEFORE THE FIRST SITE
<br />VISIT. THE STRUCTURAL OBSERVER SHALL ALSO INFORM THE OWNER OF THE
<br />REQUIREMENTS FOR A PRECONSTRUCTION MEETING AND SHALL PRESIDE OVER THIS
<br />MEETING.
<br />4. THE OWNER OR OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE SHALL COORDINATE COMMUNICATION
<br />BETWEEN THE ENGINEER OR ARCHITECT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE STRUCTURAL DESIGN,
<br />STRUCTURAL OBSERVER, CONTRACTOR, AFFECTED SUBCONTRACTORS AND SPECIAL
<br />INSPECTORS. THE PURPOSE OF THIS COMMUNICATION SHALL BE TO IDENTIFY THE
<br />MAJOR STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS AND CONNECTIONS THAT AFFECT THE VERTICAL AND
<br />LATERAL LOAD SYSTEMS OF THE STRUCTURE AND TO REVIEW SCHEDULING OF THE
<br />REQUIRED OBSERVATIONS.
<br />5. REPORTS SHALL BE ISSUED FOR EACH STRUCTURAL OBSERVATION AND ISSUED TO
<br />THE OWNER, ARCHITECT, CONTRACTOR AND BUILDING OFFICIAL. A RECORD OF THE
<br />PRECONSTRUCTION MEETING NOTED ABOVE SHALL BE INCLUDED IN THE FIRST
<br />OBSERVATION REPORT,
<br />6. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SCHEDULE EACH OBSERVATION AT LEAST TWO WEEKS PRIOR
<br />TO DATE OF THE PROPOSED OBSERVATION.
<br />7. THE STRUCTURAL OBSERVER SHALL PERFORM OBSERVATIONS AT THE FOLLOWING
<br />SIGNIFICANT CONSTRUCTION STAGES:

<br />QUANTITIES AND KINDS OF MATERIALS, METHODS OF ASSEMBLY, AND ALL DATA
<br />REQUIRED FOR FABRICATION, ERECTION, AND INSTALLATION. THE PURPOSE OF THESE
<br />DRAWINGS IS TO DEMONSTRATE THAT THE CONTRACTOR UNDERSTANDS THE DESIGN
<br />CONCEPT DOCUMENTED HEREIN. SUBMITTALS CONSISTING OF DRAWINGS TAKEN
<br />DIRECTLY FROM THESE PLANS WILL NOT BE APPROVED. IF DEVIATIONS,
<br />DISCREPANCIES OR CONFLICTS BETWEEN SHOP DRAWING SUBMITTALS AND THE
<br />CONTRACT DOCUMENTS ARE DISCOVERED, EITHER PRIOR TO OR AFTER REVIEW BY
<br />THE STRUCTURAL ENGINEER, THE DESIGN DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS SHALL
<br />CONTROL AND SHALL BE FOLLOWED. RESPONSIBILITY FOR ADHERENCE TO THE
<br />CONTRACT DOCUMENTS LIES SOLELY WITH THE CONTRACTOR. DIMENSIONS AND
<br />QUANTITIES ARE NOT REVIEWED BY THE STRUCTURAL ENGINEER AND THEREFORE
<br />MUST BE VERIFIED BY THE CONTRACTOR.
<br />4. "TEST RESULTS" - SUBMIT RESULTS FOR ANY TESTING REQUIRED BY BUILDING CODE
<br />OR THESE PLANS.

<br />5. "CALCS" - SUBMIT SIGNED AND SEALED PREPARED BY A DESIGN PROFESSIONAL
<br />AUTHORIZED TO PERFORM WORK IN THE PROJECT JURISDICTION. CALCULATIONS
<br />SHALL INDICATE THE MAGNITUDE AND DIRECTION OF ALL LOADS IMPOSED ON THE
<br />BASIC STRUCTURE. THE COMPONENT DESIGNER SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR CODE
<br />CONFORMANCE AND ALL NECESSARY CONNECTIONS NOT SPECIFICALLY CALLED OUT
<br />ON THE ARCHITECTURAL AND STRUCTURAL DRAWINGS.
<br />6. "BLDG DEPT" -- IF CHECKED, THE SUBMITTALS SHALL BE REVIEWED AND APPROVED
<br />BY THE BUILDING OFFICIAL PRIOR TO FABRICATION AND/OR INSTALLATION.
<br />7, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REVIEW, STAMP AND APPROVE SUBMITTALS PRIOR TO
<br />REVIEW BY THE STRUCTURAL ENGINEER. UNREVIEWED OR UNSTAMPED SUBMITTALS
<br />WILL BE RETURNED TO THE CONTRACTOR UNREVIEWED.
<br />8. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL ALLOW TWO WEEKS FOR REVIEW OF SUBMITTALS.
<br />COMMENTS OR MARKS ON SUBMITTALS ARE A NORMAL AND EXPECTED PART OF THE
<br />SUBMITTAL PROCESS AND SHALL NOT BE USED AS A BASIS FOR CHANGE ORDERS.
<br />TIME REQUIRED TO REVISE AND RESUBMIT ANY SUBMITTAL SHALL BE CONSIDERED
<br />INHERENT IN THE TO THE SUBMITTAL REVIEW PROCESS AND SHALL NOT BE DEEMED
<br />A CHANGE ORDER.
<br />9. RESUBMITTALS SHALL HAVE ALL REVISIONS CLEARLY IDENTIFIED WITH DRAWING
<br />CLOUDS AND REVISION DATES. THE STRUCTURAL ENGINEER SHALL NOT BE
<br />RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REVIEW OF ANY UNMARKED REVISIONS.
<br />10. CONTRACTOR REQUESTED CHANGES OR SUBSTITUTIONS SHALL BE SUBMITTED IN
<br />WRITING TO THE STRUCTURAL ENGINEER FOR APPROVAL PRIOR TO FABRICATION OR
<br />CONSTRUCTION. CHANGES SHOWN ON SHOP DRAWINGS ONLY WILL NOT SATISFY THIS
<br />REQUIREMENT. CONTRACTOR WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ADDITIONAL
<br />ENGINEERING EFFORT AND ASSOCIATED FEES REQUIRED FOR REVIEW AND APPROVAL
<br />OF REQUESTED CHANGES AND SUBSTITUTIONS.

<br />1. STRUCTURAL STEEL DETAILING, FABRICATION AND ERECTION SHALL CONFORM TO THE

<br />STRUCTURAL STEEL MEMBERS SHALL CONFORM TO AISC REQUIREMENTS AND THE
<br />PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS.
<br />3. STRUCTURAL STEEL SHALL CONFORM TO THE FOLLOWING, UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED
<br />ON THE STRUCTURAL DRAWINGS:
<br />A. WIDE FLANGE SHAPES ASTM A992, Fy = 50 KSI
<br />B. PLATES AND BARS ASTM A36, Fy = 36 KSI
<br />C. CHANNELS AND ANGLES ASTM A36, Fy = 36 KSI
<br />D. HOLLOW ROUND SECTIONS ASTM A500-B, Fy = 42 KSI
<br />E. HOLLOW RECTANGULAR SECTIONS ASTM A500-13, Fy = 46 KSI
<br />F. ROUND PIPE ASTM A53-13, Fy = 35 KSI
<br />G. ANCHOR RODS EMBEDDED IN CONCRETE ASTM F1554 GRADE 36
<br />H. CONNECTION BOLTS A325-N-STD
<br />4. THE STRUCTURAL STEEL FABRICATOR SHALL FURNISH SHOP DRAWINGS FOR REVIEW
<br />AND APPROVAL PRIOR TO THE START OF FABRICATION.
<br />5. WELDING SHALL BE PERFORMED IN ACCORDANCE WITH AWS REQUIREMENTS. ALL
<br />WELDS SHALL BE PREQUALIFIED IN ACCORDANCE WITH AWS AND AISC STANDARDS.
<br />USE E70XX ELECTRODES, UON.
<br />6. ALL WELDS SHALL BE PERFORMED BY WELDERS CERTIFIED IN THE JURISDICTION
<br />HAVING AUTHORITY OVER THIS PORTION OF THE WORK.
<br />7. WELD LENGTHS CALLED FOR ON THE PLANS ARE THE NET EFFECTIVE LENGTH
<br />REQUIRED. WELD SIZE SHALL BE AISC MINIMUM, UON.
<br />8. BOLTED CONNECTIONS OF MEMBERS MARKED 'SLRS' OR CONNECTIONS NOTED AS
<br />SLIP CRITICAL SHALL BE PRETENSIONED AND SHALL MEET THE REQUIREMENTS FOR A
<br />CLASS A FAYING SURFACE. CONNECTIONS AT THESE MEMBERS SHALL BE MADE USING
<br />STANDARD HOLES IN ALL PLYS.
<br />9. PENETRATIONS OF ANY SIZE IN ANY AREA OF THE MEMBER MUST BE REVIEWED AND
<br />APPROVED BY THE STRUCTURAL ENGINEER.
<br />10. BEAMS AND GIRDERS SHALL NOT SUPPORT PIPING LARGER THAN 10" DIAMETER
<br />WITHOUT THE REVIEW OF THE STRUCTURAL ENGINEER OF RECORD.
<br />11. TENSION CONTROL BOLTS MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR THE BOLTS SPECIFIED IN THESE
<br />PLANS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE CONTRACTOR. ASTM F1852 TC BOLTS MAY BE
<br />SUBSTITUTED FOR ASTM A325 BOLTS AND ASTM F2280 TC BOLTS MAY BE
<br />SUBSTITUTED FOR ASTM A490.
