APPENDIX B
GEOTECHNICAL LABORATORY TESTING
Following collection during geotechnical field exploration, as discussed in Appendix A, soil
samples were delivered to Landau Associates' geotechnical laboratory in Edmonds, Washington for
further evaluation and laboratory test assignment. Selected samples were subject to moisture content
determination and grain-size distribution determination.
Natural Moisture Content
Natural moisture content determinations were performed in general accordance with ASTM
D2216 on soil samples obtained from the borings. The natural moisture content is shown as "W=xx"
(percent of dry weight) at the respective sample depth in the column labeled "Test Data" on the boring
logs presented in Appendix A.
Grain-Size Distribution
Grain-size distribution determinations were performed on sixty-two representative soil samples
from the borings in accordance with ASTM D422. The results of these tests are presented as distribution
curves on Figures B-1 through B-13 of this appendix. Samples selected for grain-size determinations are
designated with a"GS" in the column labeled "Test Data" on the boring logs presented in Appendix A.
Where these data exist, the fines content(i.e., percent by weight passing the#200 sieve)is designated by
an"X"on the summary graph in the right-most portion of the boring logs.
5/16/14 P:\1423\002\010\FileRm\R\Draft Bldg 40-58 Report\Appendices\Appendix B-Bldg 40-58.docx LANDAU ASSOCIATES
B-1
