After getting the electrical
(#EZ 108 109), plumbing(P2108-015), HVAC mechanical (#M 2107 087) and mechanical propane permits (#M 2108 014),
G-3, my sisters general, took out the pre-existing kitchen cabinets. Once the cabinets were out,a decision was made to
take out two non-bearing walls that ran east to west to open up the kitchen/dining area thereby converting the space
to a larger open area. In addition, we took out just a portion of a bearing wall running north and south that separated
the kitchen/dining room from the living room. The portion of that wall that was removed was re-fortified with a header
above the expanded opening.
When the electrical inspector came in, we were told we needed a building permit for the work described above. So,we
immediately hired a structural engineer who inspected the work that had been done. His letter is attached here as well
as to the permit application that was made on today,September 9, 2021-that is it was placed in the box outside the
building permit offices. The only thing that he thought should be added to the work already done was plywood to a
pre-existing wall to give it additional shear protection.
As all of the work under the specialty permits is done now and we are hoping to call for an inspection on that
work. Once that work is approved we can then start to cover and do the other cosmetic work but none of the
inspectors will inspect the permitted work until the building permit is issued. Since the scope of the building permit is so
limited, my sister was hoping to get quick approval of that so the project can proceed before the fall weather starts to
set in. I don't know what help you can give her in that regard so I am asking if there is something we can do to expedite
the issuance of the permit considering that we already have an engineer's structural approval.
FYI we have no existing plans for the residence as I think it was built in the 1980s or earlier other than a floor plan a
portion of which is attached to the engineer's letter I did check with the buildling dept archives and found nothing else.
In light of the above I am hoping to at least get approval for the specialty work to be inspected. Any assistance that can
be provided to expedite those inspections would be helpful.
Sincerely; Dennis Jordan
Dennis Jordan
Attorney
4202 Hoyt Ave
1 I
