WASHINGTON 1893 <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, Everett, Washington aspires to protect Puget Sound and its tributaries which are the <br />source of our communities' wellbeing, health, economy and quality of life; <br />WHEREAS, we acknowledge the original inhabitants of this place, the sduhubs people and their <br />successors, the Tulalip Tribes, who have stewarded this land from time immemorial; <br />AND, a healthy and vibrant Puget Sound defines our Northwest culture, as do our indigenous <br />people's stories, our tribal Treaty responsibilities, and our shared legacy for future generations; <br />WHEREAS, the health of Puget Sound is declining, and creatures and plants great and small, from <br />o ur bull kelp forests and salmon, to our orcas and shellfish are at risk from the human impacts of <br />stormwater runoff, loss of natural habitats, and a changing climate; <br />AND, we all have the power to protect our Puget Sound treasure, work together to discover and <br />take clean water actions through the Puget Sound Starts Here campaign; <br />WHEREAS, in the month. of September City of Everett will join with other governing bodies, <br />o rganizations and community groups to strengthen stewardship of our shared watershed and <br />e ncourage all to take action to improve the health of Puget Sound. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, Cassie Franklin, Mayor of the City of Everett, do hereby proclaim the month <br />of September 2022 as <br />PUGET SOUND STARTS HERE MONTH <br />I urge residents to support clean water and healthy habitat by joining me in this special observance <br />and discover how to make a difference and be part of the solution. <br />Signed this 31 day of August, 2022 <br />%7layor Cassie Franklin <br />
