Everett Transit will continue to support the Swift Bus Rapid Transit Blue Line through a share of one half of one tenth of one percent of dedicated transit sales tax collected in the City of Everett. Distribution in 2022 is expected to be approximately $1.7 million. Project summary statement: In December 2007, the City entered into an agreement with Community Transit to explore and establish mutually beneficial cooperative agreements, including Swift Bus Rapid Transit, para transit, and various customer service activities. The cornerstone agreement is for Swift BRT. Community Transit began the Swift Bus Rapid Transit service, in partnership with the City of Everett and Everett Transit in November 2009. This service addressed a serious safety concern for transit customers forced to transfer at Airport Road and Highway 99 to continue their trips to and from Everett. Swift provides a valuable service alternative for Everett residents and has become part of the reliable transit network in the City along with Everett Transit and Sound Transit. The original agreement expires on December 31, 2022. In consideration of the current study with Community Transit regarding the long-term future of transit service in Everett, staff recommends the agreement be extended for an additional two years. All terms and conditions remain in effect. Recommendation (exact action requested of Council): Authorize the Mayor to sign Amendment No. 1 to the Interlocal Agreement Between Snohomish County Public Transportation Benefit Area Corporation (Community Transit) and the City of Everett (Everett Transit) Regarding the Cooperation Provision of Services.
