The grant will pay for Cardiac Screenings of Commissioned staff through June 30, 2023, there is no match. Project summary statement: This wellness program would allow officers to get an extensive health screening which would assist the officer and their doctor in identifying those who are at high risk of a cardiac event. It has been well researched that police officers have shorter life expectancies than the general population, and heart disease is a leading cause of death to active and retired law enforcement officers. Recommendation (exact action requested of Council): Authorize the Mayor to sign all necessary documents and agreements with the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission regarding the acceptance and utilization of the Officer Wellness Program Grant in the amount of $152,000.
