PROVIDE ASTM A563 NUTS WITH MATCHED WASHERS AT BOTH ENDS. <br />14. USE DOUBLE NUTS OR SINGLE NUT AND PEENED THREADS AT BOLTED <br />CONNECTIONS WITH LONG SLOT HOLES. <br />15. HOLE SIZES IN STEEL MEMBERS CONNECTED TO CONCRETE OR MASONRY SHALL <br />BE 1/16" LARGER THAN THE BOLT DIAMETER. THE USE OF LARGER HOLES WOULD <br />REQUIRE THE USE OF WELDED PLATE WASHERS AND WOULD REQUIRE PRIOR <br />APPROVAL BY THE STRUCTURAL ENGINEER. HARDENED OR COMMON PLATE <br />WASHERS ARE REQUIRED BELOW ALL NUTS WHERE OVERSIZED HOLES ARE USED <br />AND SHALL BE SIZED TO COVER THE ENTIRE HOLE. MAXIMUM HOLE SIZES AND <br />MINIMUM WASHER SIZES FOR COLUMN BASE PLATES SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE <br />WITH TABLE 14-2 OF THE AISC STEEL CONSTRUCTION MANUAL, 14TH EDITION. <br />STRUCTURAL OBSERVATION <br />1. STRUCTURAL OBSERVATION IS REQUIRED FOR THE STRUCTURAL SYSTEM IN <br />ACCORDANCE WITH THE GOVERNING CODE, STRUCTURAL OBSERVATION IS THE <br />VISUAL OBSERVATION OF THE ELEMENTS AND CONNECTIONS OF THE STRUCTURAL <br />SYSTEMS AT SIGNIFICANT CONSTRUCTION STAGES AND THE COMPLETED STRUCTURE <br />FOR GENERAL CONFORMANCE TO THE APPROVED PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS. <br />STRUCTURAL OBSERVATION DOES NOT WAIVE THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE <br />INSPECTIONS REQUIRED OF THE BUILDING INSPECTOR OR THE DEPUTY INSPECTOR. <br />2. THE OWNER SHALL EMPLOY AN ENGINEER OR ARCHITECT LICENSED TO PERFORM <br />STRUCTURAL OBSERVATION IN THE PROJECT JURISDICTION. <br />3. THE OWNER OR OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE SHALL COORDINATE COMMUNICATION <br />BETWEEN THE ENGINEER RESPONSIBLE FOR THE STRUCTURAL DESIGN, STRUCTURAL <br />OBSERVER, CONTRACTOR, AFFECTED SUBCONTRACTORS AND SPECIAL INSPECTORS. <br />THE PURPOSE OF THIS COMMUNICATION SHALL BE TO IDENTIFY THE MAJOR <br />STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS AND CONNECTIONS THAT AFFECT THE VERTICAL AND LATERAL <br />LOAD SYSTEMS OF THE STRUCTURE AND TO REVIEW SCHEDULING OF THE REQUIRED <br />OBSERVATIONS. <br />5. REPORTS SHALL BE ISSUED FOR EACH STRUCTURAL OBSERVATION AND ISSUED TO <br />THE OWNER, ARCHITECT, CONTRACTOR AND BUILDING OFFICIAL. A RECORD OF THE <br />PRECONSTRUCTION MEETING NOTED ABOVE SHALL BE INCLUDED IN THE FIRST <br />OBSERVATION REPORT. <br />6. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SCHEDULE EACH OBSERVATION AT LEAST TWO WEEKS PRIOR <br />TO DATE OF THE PROPOSED OBSERVATION. <br />7.
