• <br /> • <br /> (v) "Annuity" shall mean payments derived from contribution- <br /> made by a member as provided in ;sections 14 and 16 of this Ordin- <br /> ance. <br /> (w) "Retirement llowance" shall mean the pension plus the <br /> annuity. <br /> (x) "Fiscal Year" shall mean any year commencing with <br /> January 1st and ending with December 31st next following. <br /> (y) "Creditable Service'" shall mean such service as is <br /> evidenced by the record of normal contributions received from the <br /> employe plus prior service if credit for each such type of <br /> service is still intact and not lost through withdrawal of <br /> accumulated normal contributions as provided in Section 12 of <br /> this Ordinance. <br /> Section 3 : ESTABLISI•EatNT AND NAEE OF R TIRELE T <br /> SYSTEM: 11 retirement system is hereby created and established <br /> to become effective Janus ry 1, 1945, end to be known as the <br /> "Everett Employes' Retirement System" ; provided, however, thtt <br /> this section shall not be construed as preventing the performance <br /> before January 1, 1945, of any preliminary work which the City <br /> Council or the board of Administration shall deem necessary. <br /> Section 4: r> (BERSFLP IN RET1hEMENT SYSTE .`.: <br /> (a) ith the exception of those employes who are excluded <br /> from meLber-ship as provided in Subdivision (b) of this Section, <br /> all officers and employes shall become members of the Retirement <br /> System as follows: <br /> 1. Every officer and employe , as defined in this ordinance , <br /> who shall be in the city service on January 1, 1945, shall become <br /> a member of the Retirement System on that date, except any employe <br /> who shEll not have been in the city service six (6) months, such <br /> employe becoming a member of said system upon the completion of <br /> six (6 ) months' of continuous service , or upon completion of one <br /> hundred fifty (150) working days in such service within any <br /> calendar year. <br /> 2. Every employe who enters or re-enters city service after <br /> January 1, 1945, shall become a member of the Retirement System <br /> upon the completion of six (6) months of continuous service , or <br /> 150 workings days in city service in any calendar year. <br /> (b) The following employes shall not become members of the <br /> Retirement System: <br /> 1. T embers of the Police Department who are entitled to the <br /> benefits of the Police Relief and Pension Fund as established by <br /> State Law. <br /> 2. riembers of the Fire Department who are entitled to the <br /> benefits of the Firemen' s Relief and Pension Fund as established <br /> by State Law. <br /> -3- <br />
