Via Mobility/City of Boulder Fleet Electrification and
Feasibility Study
Via Mobility Services, 2855 63rd St, Boulder, CO, 2019-2022, Bill Patterson, Chief Financial
Officer, (303) 473-2893,bpatterson@viacolorado.org,Contract Value: $135,000
Via Mobility is a non-profit transit agency focused on providing public transportation services in Boulder, operating a fleet of ~180
vehicles that include a mix of light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicles and serves close to 1 million passengers per year. To support
Via and the City ’s commitment to converting to an all-electric fleet, MGL is modeling the
charging process, quantifying electrical demands, assessing the impact on the electrical
network, optimizing the size of charging infrastructure, and coordinating with Xcel Energy,
the utility, on infrastructure upgrades and interconnection requirements. Energy modeling
includes recommendations for installing solar, battery energy storage systems, and other
sources of on-site generation to reduce operating costs, increase renewable-based
generation and build resiliency for the service and the City.
Battery Electric Bus Familiarization
Course
National Joint Bus Maintenance Apprenticeship Committee, June 2020, Mark Fisher, Director of National Sales, New Flyer,
(256) 473-3246, Mark_Fisher@newflyer.com, 2022,Value of Services: Part of larger $1,5M FTA Grant for Technical Services
To implement successful bus maintenance apprenticeships, transit agencies
needed curriculum which did not yet exist to prepare both new apprentices as well
as incumbent maintenance personnel to work confidently and safely on BEBs. ITLC
developed a battery-electric bus (BEB) familiarization course initially delivered as a
three-part webinar. The course is designed for bus technicians, instructors and
others to gain a better understanding of BEBs. ITLC collaborated with major BEB
manufacturers and industry stakeholders on the content for the course and each
session featured presentations from the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
Sessions included:Session 1: BEB Overview;Session 2; and Session 3: Battery
Charging Approaches. The series was recorded and is available for viewing along
with the presentation slides, presenter notes, and assessments on ITLC’s
TransitTraining.net website.
4.B.
