February 21, 2001
RE: 2019 Hewitt Avenue
B0012-006
Gross floor area: 645d square feet
First Floor: 461 I square fect— A/B Occupancy
Second floor: 1847 square feet - R-3B Occupancy
Altematives I: Create a fire separation at the interior shear wall line usine two-hour tire
resistive construction. The fire separation would follow the wall line as it returns to the
east side of the building. The flre separation would include the following;
• encapsulating the columns and beams with two-hour fire resistive construction
material
• constructing the tloor ceiling members spannin between the shear wall and the
column line with two-hour fire resistive construction
• The fire separation must extend through the crawl space with two-hour fire resis:ive
construction
• The fire separation must extend through the second floor with two-hour fire resistive
construction including any offsets caused by differing wall alignment between the
first and second floors
• The Cre separation must continue through the roof with a parapet or the one-hour fire
resistive construction over the entire ceiling if the framing is parallel to the wall and
two-hour fire resistive construction horizontally for five feet on both sides of the wall
line to include the roof framing members if the framina is perpendicular to the wall
• Openings in the fire separation are limited to 2590 of the len,th of the wall and must
be protected by 90 minute fire resistive assemblies
Alternative II: Creare a fire separation wall of two-hour fire resistive conswction. The
separation line could be located at the east west interior wall line [grid line D on the first
Floornd continue west to the kitchen. The separation could enclose the kitchen and
cooler and terminate and the west exterior wall.
An openin could remain alone the rid Iine between the customer booth and the kitchen
if protected by a 90-minute fire resistive assembly. The door leafs could remain in an
open position if held open by magnetic devices activated by the automatic fire alarm
system.
The separation must continue throueh the second Floor as described in Alternative I.
Alternative III: Create a stairway shaft in the NE corner of the buildin. The size of the
shaft must be a minimum of d54 squam feet. The shaft could not contain a second floor.
