Poland, PE
STRUCTURAL REVIEW COMMENTS (Round 2) From Email dated 7/9/21
1. The"except as follows" are for the Base Plate Design (and anchorage) and Shims.
Section 15.5.3.5 you note does not exist. I assume you meant to refer to Section
15.5.3.3 where R=4 is noted. This section is an Alternative to using the ANSI/RMI
Code. The rack design industry uses R=6 for the down aisle loading.
2. No response needed.
3. The spreadsheet software I use has not been updated to easily show the
overturning reactions with the overstrength factor of 2 to apply to the anchor bolt
design. I increased the shelf loadings by a factor of 2 to simulate the seismic shear
loads at each level. This would be equivalent to applying a factor of 2 to the load
combination. I have added another sheet showing the shelf loads associated with
the overturning and shear loads. See page 25A in the calcs.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely yours, ECE I,., n
DAVE POLAND ENGINEERING, LLC RED
v
David S.
