Fire Pension Board Minutes <br />City Of Everett <br />November 16, 2022 <br />Durable Medical Equipment <br />Moved by Neyens, seconded by Jorve, to adopt the durable medical equipment policy to state, <br />"Durable medical equipment and supplies include items such as crutches, diabetic supplies, <br />wheelchairs, walkers, scooters, hospital beds, oxygen equipment, CPAP devices, etc. A written <br />prescription and pre -approval are required by Medicare and/or the Pension Board. Retirees on <br />Medicare must use a "Medicare contracted supplier" and follow Medicare requirements when <br />renting or purchasing durable medical equipment. A list of Medicare contracted suppliers is <br />available on their website at www.Medicare.gov/supplier or by contacting Medicare at 1-800- <br />633-4227. <br />If you are unable to purchase or rent durable medical equipment from a Medicare contracted <br />supplier or the durable medical equipment is not covered by Medicare, you must submit a <br />request for pre -approval from the Pension Board if the cost exceeds $2,000. All requests must <br />include a written prescription from a physician, written quote from the supplier indicating cost <br />of the equipment, and a written statement from the member regarding why they are unable <br />to purchase or rent from a Medicare contracted supplier. Benefit levels will be determined on <br />a case -by -case basis." <br />Roll was called with all members voting yes except Board Members Stonecipher and Franklin, <br />who were excused. <br />The meeting adjourned at 9:59 a.m. <br />3 <br />Motion carried. <br />Marista, Board Secretary <br />
