Pierson, Inc. has reviewed Intertek's equivalency letter 102525245C0Q-001 <br /> dated March 1, 2016 along with Intertek report number 3099244C0Q-005A dated <br /> December 11, 2006 for the picket railing system and Intertek report number <br /> 3147626C0Q-003 dated October 20th, 2008 covering the Glass Panel Railing System. <br /> These reports covered the testing of the Aluminum Welded Picket and Glass Railing <br /> guardrail systems that are constructed by Innovative Aluminum Systems, Inc. to the <br /> loading requirements of the 2006 and 2009 International Building Codes. The <br /> equivalency letter was completed to show these reports also apply to the 2012, 2015, and <br /> 2018 International Building Codes. <br /> TEST SUMMARY <br /> Two configurations of the railing systems were tested in 2006 and 2008. One system was <br /> the fascia mounted system with 1.72"x 1.72" 6061-T6 Aluminum post extrusions with <br /> the posts spaced at 6 ft apart. Mounting plate was thick,2"x 1 '/2"x 5"tall 6061-T6 <br /> aluminum with 3/4"offset and 4 screw holes. Rails were 42" high and 6063-T6 <br /> aluminum. The 2006 report covers the picket railing and the 2008 report covers glass <br /> panels with 6 mm tempered glass. Surface mounted systems were also tested with a 3/8" <br /> x 4"x 4" 6061-T6 base plates. The rest of the surface mounted railing systems were <br /> similar to the fascia systems. <br /> CONCLUSIONS <br /> 1. The guardrail railing design requirements contained in the 2006 and 2009 IBC are <br /> the same as contained in the 2012, 2015, and 2018 IBCs and also as specified in <br /> the 2010 and 2016 ASCE 7 documents. The testing was completed per earlier <br /> editions of the ICC-ES AC273 document which is the Acceptance Criteria for <br /> Handrails and Guards.
