The City of Everett will be
reimbursed by the CJTC for the full salary and benefit costs of both employees.
Project summary statement:
The CJTC was recently authorized to form a regional academy in northwest Washington to get
police recruits into the basic academy training more quickly. Wait times for academy spots at
their primary campus in Burien had been lengthening. Having a regional academy will allow
newly hired Everett officers the ability to be trained and deployed into our community sooner. In
support of this regional academy the Everett Police Department applied for two positions
(assistant academy commander and TAC officer). Everett PD employees were selected to fill both
positions. Their assistance with this regional academy will give Everett PD guaranteed positions
in each academy class that is hosted at the new site.
Recommendation (exact action requested of Council):
Authorize the Mayor to sign this (and any future) interagency agreements between CJTC and the
City of Everett related to assigning Everett employees to the NW Regional Basic Law Enforcement
Academy.
