Any requested
specifications that differ from NFPA specifications must be indicated in the proposal as "non-NFPA."
2.7 MANDATORY APPARATUS DESIGN FEATURES
The following are mandatory design features for the awarded apparatus:
a. This apparatus shall meet federal, state and agency requirements for motor vehicle safety standards.
b. This fire apparatus must conform to the applicable National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 1901
current edition at the time of apparatus construction.
c. The assembled components must all meet manufacturer’s specifications.
d. Compliance with RCW 46.44.190, https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.44.190.
e. Final vehicle must meet Washington state weight requirements.
2.7.1 MECHANICAL
a. Angle of approach and departure at a minimum of twelve (12) degrees. This will be effective with the
pumper in a loaded state.
b. Wheelbase not to exceed 185 inches.
c. Engine with a minimum of 450 horsepower.
d. Minimum fuel tank capacity of 60 gallons.
e. Minimum diesel exhaust fluid tank capacity of 4.5 gallons.
f. An effective engine brake with multiple settings.
g. 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes.
h. Tire pressure management system plumbed to equalize duals.
i. Parking brake that locks all wheels.
j. A second parking brake actuator located on the right side of the dash.
k. Steering wheel to have tilting and telescoping capabilities.
l. Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) with integrated idle reduction or other system designed to reduce the
carbon footprint. The main engine should automatically shut down after a predetermined time and
have an APU run the electrical equipment such as HVAC and all lighting. It is necessary to have the
main engine automatically restarted before the voltage drops to a critical level.
m. Any nylon tube on the apparatus that is pneumatic must be plumbed with compression type fittings
where applicable. Push lock fittings are not acceptable for any pneumatic nylon tube plumbing.
n. No silicone coolant hoses will be accepted.
