ORDINANCE No. 2610. <br /> An Ordinance relating to the issuance of permits and construc- <br /> tion of driveway entrances , into gas stations, business establishments , <br /> garages, etc. , where said driveway crosses any walk, lane or path used <br /> by pedestrians in the City of Everett, and declaring an emergency. <br /> THE CITY OF EVERc;TT DOES ORDAIN: <br /> Section 1 : It shall be unlawful of any person, firm or corpora- <br /> tion to construct any driveway across sidewalks , lanes or paths, used <br /> by pedestrians, without first obtaining a permit to do so from the City <br /> Council . <br /> Section 2: No driveway shall exceed thirty (30 ) feet in width, <br /> measured parallel to the street or road, and further, in the event of <br /> wider driveways being required, they shall be separated by a safety zone <br /> or island, not less than six (6) feet wide; and further, at all street <br /> corners , a safety zone shall be provided, as in the judgment of the City <br /> Council is sufficient to safeguard the pedestrian. No driveways will be <br /> permitted to cross any street corner where the sidewalk or path inter- <br /> sects with that corner. <br /> Section 3 : Any person, firm or corporation that may construct a <br /> driveway shall do so under the supervision of the City Engineer, and any <br /> portion or whole that does not come up to City specifications shall be <br /> removed when so directed by the City Engineer; and further, any person, <br /> firm or corporation that shall have constructed a driveway and moved <br /> from the premises , or has no further use for said driveway, shall re- <br /> move the same and replace by a concrete sidewalk, said walk to be done <br /> at their own expense and under the supervision of the City Engineer. <br /> Section 4: It appearing that this Ordinance is necessary for the <br /> good order and safety of the City of Everett, an emergency is hereby de- <br /> clared to exist and this Ordinance shall take effect immediately upon <br /> its passage and publication. <br /> Attest: City Clerk. <br /> Passed: May 2n d, 1934. <br /> Published: May jth, 1934. <br />
