This email will serve as the review letter. The
comments below should be addressed. Two revised full-sized hard -copies of the drawings should be submitted for
review. An itemized response letter stating how each comment has been addressed should be included with the
drawing. Additional revised documentation, including but not limited structural calculations and other supporting
documentation, should be submitted as required.
Comments
1. The proposed project involves installing a metal sign weighing 100 LBS or move above a pedestrian
walkway. The sign is proposed to be anchored to an existing unreinforced masonry (URM) surface and oriented
for exposure to wind loading. Calculations substantiating the design of the anchorage should be submitted for
review. See IBC Section 1604.1 and 1604.4.
Continuing with the previous comment, the anchorage design should be suitable to the base material. It is
noted that the URM appears to potentially have a wood fagade. The fagade should be considered as a surface
finishing and not used to support the sign. Furthermore, the anchorage should consider that the masonry is
likely not in like -new condition and has reduced structural integrity. Appropriate material properties
considering the age and condition of the masonry should be determined. The anchorage design should comply
with the procedures of TMS 402-16. See IBC Section 2101.2.
3. Wind loads should be determined per ASCE 7-16 Chapter 26 and applied concurrently using the appropriate load
combinations per IBC Section 1605. See IBC Section 1609.1.
Please contact me if you have questions. Thank you.
— Drew Martin, P.E., S.E.
Associate Engineer —Commercial Plans Examiner I Permit Services
425.257.8810 13200 Cedar Street, 2nd Floor, Everett, WA 98201
EVERETT Phone Hours: M/W/T: 8 am - 12 pm & 1 pm — 3 pm; Tu: 1:00pm-3:00pm
everettwa.gov/permits I Facebook I Twitter
Note: Emails and attachments sent to and from the City of Everett are public records and may be subject to disclosure pursuant to the Public
Records Act.
