To achieve a permit, work will need to be done to expose all the areas that unpermitted work has
occurred. This will be a two-step process:
1. Limited demo (removal of the wall finished surface (GWB/Sheetrock)) to expose the framing,
electrical and plumbing in the un-permitted work areas.
2. Once inspected by the permitting authority, a plan for correcting everything can be created in
conjunction with the contractor and homeowner to address everything in a plan for permit.
Phase 1: The initial work will be GWB removal (limited demo) and confirmation of what un-permitted
work was done. Inspections will be performed after everything is exposed to identify anything not done
to meet 2018 IRC code for framing, electrical and plumbing.
Phase 2: After the inspections, corrective actions can be listed and a plan can then be created to display
(E) Existing versus (N) New and submitted for permit.
The following steps are for the limited demo phase at this time.
There is a 3D walkthrough of the current home with annotation tags that can be viewed in any internet
browser. Go here: https://my.matterport.com/show/?m=zVDT83Qzlrs
After accomplishing the task of getting permission from the Code Enforcement Department to do the
limited work of GWB removal, the rest of this list will be in room task order.
1. Get Permission To perform Exploratory Reveal for inspection.
a. Contact the manager of the code enforcement division, Eddie, and request limited
permission that allows for GWB to be removed on one side of every wall where un-
permitted construction has been performed.
b. A plan to show what shall be removed is available.
2. GARAGE (inside garage only)
REMOVE OR DEMO
a. Remove the windows in the garage that open into the habitable space of the home.
b. Remove all the shake -style siding in the garage and the 3 bottom rows of the upper lap
siding in the gable (Note. Confirm that the lower shake -style siding is not asbestos. If it
is, ensure that proper Asbestos removal remediation is performed.)
c. Expose the garage side of the shared home/garage wall to framing, for inspection.
d. Remove everything that is laying on top of the two 2 x 6 existing joists in the garage
ceiling. (Plywood and scrap)
e. Remove the GWB from the garage side of new master bedroom wall down to the floor.
i. Ensure that there is away to view under the master bedroom floor from the
garage to correctly identify the materials used to create the new master
bedroom addition floor system.
f. Up in the gable region where the lap siding is located, create openings in the existing
wall to allow the air in the attic space of the house and the garage to equalize.
g. The house, before the garage was added had a louver vent in the peak of the gable wall.
Delete the inside louver and install it on the actual outside of the garage.
