Gross Structural Engineers, LLC
Re: Brickley Residence Addition Corrections (B2105-038)
Jonathan,
I am writing this letter in response to the structural questions posed by Drew Marin
of the City of Everett in his review of the Brickley Residence located at 4815 Baker
Drive dated June 23, 2021.
1. The proposed design removes the shear wall on the south side of the
building. The building does not appear to have adequate braced wall
panels complying with the prescriptive limits of the IRC. In addition, it is
not clear that the building is provided with drag struts or diaphragm
construction to transfer loads from the south half of the building to other
walls. Structural calculations substantiating the lateral design should be
submitted for review. Revisions to the design may be required. See IRC
Section R301.1.3, and IBC Sections 1603.1, 1604.1, and 1604.4.
Per the attached calculations, the remaining wall at between the Storage
room and Bathroom has been upgraded to adequately resist the shear
loads that were previously resisted by the existing wall at the kitchen.
Details have been added to sheet S4.1 to show the required upgrade
connections and framing.
RECEIVED
AUG 272021
,-4.€, ,,...
