The standard buffer widths required by this chapter presume the existence of a relatively intact
native vegetated community including native tree cover, shrub understory and ground cover. If the
existing buffer is unvegetated, sparsely vegetated, or vegetated with invasive species,
the buffer vegetation shall be enhanced or restored to the width required by this section. The
vegetation shall include native plant communities that are appropriate for the Puget Lowland
ecoregion or with a plant community that provides similar functions.
The tributary of Swamp Creek has the potential to be fish -bearing and therefore is rated a Type F
stream, see DNR FPARS map. The standard buffer requirement for a Type F stream is 100 feet.
The buffer has more intact native vegetation with Himalayan blackberry in the understory, and
areas that sparsely vegetated. The invasive species will be removed and sparsely vegetated areas
will be replanted with native plant species.
EMC 19.37.170 Standard stream and lake buffer requirements.
Table 37.5: Stream Buffers
Standard Buffer:
Unvegetated;
Standard
Sparsely
Stream
Buffer: Intact
Vegetated; or
Classification
Native
Vegetated with
(Type)
Vegetation
Invasive Species
Type S
100 feet
150 feet
Type F
100 feet
150 feet
Type Np
50 feet
75 feet
Type Ns
50 feet
75 feet
5
