This three-year agreement pays the Foundation$70,000 per year for its services. The Parks Department has insufficient resources to pay for the entire 1998 contract amount. Parks staff have consulted with experts who recommend the pole be restored and displayed permanently indoors. Restoration will include paint removal,chemical treatment, removal of rotted wood,carving of new appendages,cleaning and sealing checks and cracks,and repainting pole in original colors. Restoration does not include transporting,facility preparation,and installation of the pole at a permanent display site.
