t 7D464/1NrikPhAg
A-ll 8 ids ' STRUCTURAL
DEI
DIBBLE ENGINEERS INC SITE VISIT REVIEW
July 30,2021
6CI tek
Greens of Merrill Creek Apartments
Care of Amento Group
Attn: Ms. Hannah Smith,Arch Technical Designer
710 Second Avenue, Suite 400
Seattle,WA 98101
Re: Greens of Merrill Creek Apartments Structural Repair re/7)o Building#2 Entry Repair DEI Project#17-077
Dear Mrs. Smith:
Dibble Engineers completed a site visit on Wednesday July 28,2021 to review a series of clarifications for the
ongoing repairs at the entryway on the east side of building#2. DEI was onsite with Hannah Smith and Charter
Construction to review the framing repairs completed and provide direction on the attachments. The issues discussed
in the field include the following:
1. Replacement posts at the front corner posts are GLB 5.5x6"members vertically approximately 20' high. The
GLB 5.5x6"is adequate for the proposed loads to be used. Moving forward for available posts that will
extend upwards of 45'tall for the four-story landings, the Contractor requested, and DEI concurs to be
adequate for a continuous post—using a 5.25"x 7.25"PSL column to be adequate. These will be
continuous members from the ground vertically to the roof truss support elevation.
2. Framing into the GLB post from the walkway is a section of replacement 5.5"x12"GLB to match similar
depth as existing that was replaced. The beam uses an HUC610 hanger into the corner post and bears on
the walkway privacy wall, with a minimum of three studs.
3. The attachment of the repaired GLB into each end recommends a pair of horizontal strap to wrap around
the post with a CS 16 strap with an end length of 12"to attach the new GLB to the existing. Similar use two
straps at the corner post with 12"to the replacement GLB and wrap around the post 11.5".
4. Located at the new landing edge the replacement 3.5x12" PSL beam will frame onto a short shearwall
assembly. The vertical corner post provides vertical continuity of the shearwall at the corner. DEI
recommends a vertical CS16 strap aligned above the inside edge of the shearwall up the face of the new
PSL beam. This strap would be over the shearwall plywood sheathing. Nailing should be a 0.131x2.5"nail
at 3"on center edges and 6"on center field and splice over blocking.
5. Located at the new landing framing, the contractor will use the 3.5"x12" PSL at the top of stairs support
member and at the outside edge over the shearwall. The two intermediate landing joists can use a 2x12
Doug Fir#2+Btr at 24"on center(A total of 2 landing members)to span the ten feet across the landing.
6. The roof trusses to the top plate or beam need a positive connection. The contractor requests, and DEI
concurs to use a Simpson Strong Tie SDWC Truss screw in lieu of metal strap hardware.
7. Located at the roof level, the use of either(2)2x10 or a 4x10 may be used to span the approximately eight
feet between the upper landing wall to the outside corner post. The use of a HUC410 or HUC210-2 may be
used to connect the support beam into the corner post. Provide 2x6 top plates and furring plates as needed.
DIBBLE ENGINEERS INC 11029 Market Street,Suite 200, Kirkland WA 98033 1425.828.4200 I dibbleengineers.com
