The occupant load appears to be missing from the plan set. Please provide on occupant load for the proposed
structure. IBC 1004.
Response: this is an open -aired, covered structure (canopy) — with no walls. I am curious about the occupant load
requirement: would this really apply?
Having said that the structure is roughly 850 sf and dividing that by 7sf per person —122 persons
STRUCTURAL
1. Please indicate the Basic Seismic Force Resisting Systems, seismic coefficient in each direction, and R factors used as
this information appears to be missing from the construction documents. IBC 1603.1.5.
Response:
Seismic Force Resisting System:
Response Modification Coefficient, R-Factor:
Seismic Coefficient, Cs:
STRUCTURAL
Steel Ordinary Cantilever Columns
1.25
0.768
2. The proposed roof structure is considered a membrane structure per IBC definitions. Please provide structural
calculations demonstrating that the membrane structure has been designed in accordance with ASCE 55. The proposed
steel HSS cantilever member calculations also appear to be missing. Current structural calculations appear to only
consider the foundation design of the foundation supporting the proposed steel and membrane structure. Please provide
additional calculations for review. IBC 1604, 3102.2, 3102.7, 3102.7.1.
Response: We have indicated that the canopy structure will be a DEFERRED SUBMITTAL; this is noted on the
structural drawings. We would need this information from the membrane structure manufacturer and since this is a
publicly bid project we can not sole -source the manufacturer and thus we are not able to procure the calculation until
after the project has been bid and awarded. And we are not able to bid the project without the having the site
development and building permit.
What are the steps to have the permit approved but clarified that the canopy structure is deferred and will be
submitted separately?
