As you can see that this block has only 6' of sidewalk on Maple Street. We request that we may <br /> be allowed to keep the existing sidewalk. The modification request arises due to the existing <br /> condition of the sidewalk along Maple Street. We also assure you that this modification will not <br /> be against public interest for safety and convenience. On the other hand,the modification, if <br /> required to be installed,will create a safety hazard.The granting of this modification will not <br /> adversely affect the rights of the adjacent property owners and tenants. <br /> Request for Modification: <br /> Per EMC 19.33.050 D1, D2& D3 <br /> D. Other Considerations at the Direction of the City Engineer. The city <br /> engineer may allow a modification or reduction of the public sidewalk standards in <br /> this chapter in the following circumstances: <br /> 1. The required sidewalk improvements would conflict with existing underground or <br /> aboveground utilities,including sewer,water,stormwater,or power poles; <br /> Response: The sidewalk in the front has existing underground utilities and street pole lights.The <br /> water line and street signal control lines run underground in the sidewalk. A modification of the required sidewalk improvement is necessary to provide a smooth <br /> transition to an existing sidewalk on the adjacent property,or to an alley where the sidewalk <br /> intersects the alley; or <br /> Response: The front of this block on Maple has only 6' of sidewalk for smooth transition. All <br /> adjacent properties are aligned with current sidewalk. Any changes will not he conducive to the <br /> pedestrians. <br /> 3. The required sidewalk improvement would create a traffic or pedestrian safety hazard, such as <br /> sight distance problems or conflicts with other ingress/egress locations.
