ii. Be placed so that their length within the right-of-way is minimized. <br /> 2. Meter boxes shall be set at the inside edge of the right-of-way line, but not within <br /> curb ramps. Where a utility easement exists adjacent and parallel to the right- <br /> of-way, meter boxes shall be placed in the utility easement. <br /> 3. Septic tank effluent lines shall: <br /> i. Have a minimum inside diameter of 2 inches. <br /> ii. Be encased in cast or ductile iron pipe. <br /> iii. Be placed with a minimum of 4 feet of cover from the lowest roadside <br /> feature (i.e. bottom of ditch), within 10 degrees of deflection from a <br /> perpendicular line to road centerline and shall extend to outside the right- <br /> of-way line. Private easements shall be used for installation parallel to the <br /> right-of-way line. <br /> iv. Be jacked or bored under the roadway unless otherwise approved by the <br /> Engineer. <br /> v. Not exceed a length within the right-of-way of 60 feet or the minimum <br /> width of the existing right-of-way, whichever is larger. <br /> G. Appurtenances <br /> 1. Vents may be required for casings, tunnels and galleries enclosing carriers of <br /> fluids or gases in accordance with federal, state or local standards. Vent <br /> standpipes shall be located as close to the right-of-way line as possible to <br /> minimize interference with road operation and maintenance, and shall not be <br /> concealed by vegetation. <br /> 2. Drains may be required for casings,tunnels or galleries enclosing carriers of fluids <br /> or gases in accordance with federal, state or local standards. Drains for carriers <br /> of hazardous materials shall be directed to artificial holding areas to prevent <br /> possible surface or groundwater contamination. Drains for which only water or <br /> other non-hazardous liquids may discharge may be directed into roadway <br /> drainage systems at locations approved by the Engineer. The drainage outfall <br /> shall not be used as a waste way for routine purging of the carrier pipe unless <br /> specifically authorized by the Engineer. <br /> 3. Manholes shall be designed and located in a manner that will cause the least <br /> interference to other utilities or future road expansion. Where practicable, <br /> installations in the pavement or shoulders shall be avoided. <br /> 8-05 UNDERGROUND UTILITY INSTALLATION <br /> See Standard Drawings 8-030, 8-040 <br /> A. General <br /> 1. The WSDOT/APWA Standard Specifications, particularly Sections 5-04, 7-08.3(3) <br /> and 9-01 through 9-03, shall apply unless otherwise stated below. Applicable <br /> federal and state regulations regarding trench safety shall be met. <br /> 2.
