Drew Martin
From: Drew Martin
Sent: Tuesday, October 5, 2021 1:28 PM
To: permit@catchstudio.com
Subject: City of Everett Permit Services: 2616 Colby Avenue (M2110-07) - First Building Review
Hello, Rochelle.
This email recaps our conversation, and will serve as the First Review letter. Two copies of the revised drawings should
be submitted. An itemized response letter addressing the review comments should be provided.
The following comments should be addressed:
1. The weights of the new RTU-1 and suspended heater should be listed in the drawings. Note that the building
drawings indicate that heater as existing, but the mechanical drawings state it as new.
2. The calculations for the joists supporting the RTU-1 include a dead load of 50 lbs. Per the schedule, the unit
appears to weight at least 200 Ibs, not include other components (e.g., curb, etc.). The unit weight is spread to
three joists, but still appears higher than considered in the calculations. The joists supporting the RTU-1 also
support other equipment (e.g., roof top fans, Type 1 hoods below), but these are not included in the
analysis. Note that the analysis indicates the joists are slightly overstressed; the additional loading will increase
the level of overstress. Revised calculations should be submitted.
3. The heater weight in the calculations is not clear. Note that if the actual weight is closer to 200 lb, and the
weight is distributed to only three joists, these joists may be similarly overstressed. The calculation does not
appear to consider other unit weights loading the same joists as the heater.
4. Continuing with Comments 2 and 3, supplemental framing may be required. A minor modification to the joists,
such as adding sistered framing to the overstressed joists, may be acceptable in the mechanical permit. More
substantial modifications and additions to the roof framing will require either a separate building permit, or a
revision to the previously issued Building permit under File No. B2002-033.
Please let me know if you have questions.
— Drew Martin, P.E., S.E.
Associate Engineer —Commercial Plans Examiner I Permit Services
425.257.8810 13200 Cedar Street, 2nd Floor, Everett, WA 98201
EVERETT Phone Hours: M/W/T: 8 am - 12 pm & 1 pm — 3 pm; Tu: 1:OOpm-3:OOpm
everettwa.gov/permits I Facebook I Twitter
Note: Emails and attachments sent to and from the City of Everett are public records and may be subject to disclosure pursuant to the Public
Records Act.
