Section 4: There shall be the following named assistants in the Health Department, to-wit: one deputy health officer, one milk and food inspector and one clerk and stenographer (half time) . It shall be the duty of such deputy, milk and food in- . spector and' stenographer to perform the duties pertaining to said department under the direction f the health officer and commis- sioner of public safety. Section 5: There shall be the following named officers and assistants in the Police Department, to-wit: one chief of police; one captain; one chief of identification bureau; three • desk sergeants; three detectives; seventeen patrolmen; who shall be classified as first, second or third grade patrolmen as here- inafter provided; one matron; one clerk (half time ) and one trav- elers' aid. Patrolmen, for the first yet,.r of service, shall be classed as third grade patrolmen; patrolmen, for the second year of service, shall be classed as second grade patrolmen; and patrolmen, for the third year of service and thereafter, shall be classed as first grade patrolmen. The chief of police shall be the adminis trative head of the police department. It shall be the duty of the officers and- assistants in said department to perform the du- ties indicated by the name of their employment, and such other du- ties as the chief of police and commissioner of safety may author2 ize and, direct . Section 6: There shall be in the Police Court Department the following named officers and assistants, to-wit: one police judge and one police court clerk, who shall perform the duties . pertaining to their respective offices as provided in the Char- ter and Ordinances of the City of Everett.
