a s <br /> assistants in Said office to perform sIch duties as may be re- <br /> quired of them by the city treasurer. <br /> DEPARTMENT OF SAFETY. <br /> Section 4: There shall be the following named assistants <br /> in the Health Department, to-wit: one deputy health officer, one <br /> milk and food inspector and one clerk and stenographer (half <br /> time) . It shall be the duty of such deputy, milk and food in- <br /> . <br /> spector and' stenographer to perform the duties pertaining to <br /> said department under the direction f the health officer and commis- <br /> sioner of public safety. <br /> Section 5: There shall be the following named officers <br /> and assistants in the Police Department, to-wit: one chief of <br /> police; one captain; one chief of identification bureau; three <br /> • desk sergeants; three detectives; seventeen patrolmen; who shall <br /> be classified as first, second or third grade patrolmen as here- <br /> inafter provided; one matron; one clerk (half time ) and one trav- <br /> elers' aid. Patrolmen, for the first yet,.r of service, shall be <br /> classed as third grade patrolmen; patrolmen, for the second year of <br /> service, shall be classed as second grade patrolmen; and patrolmen, <br /> for the third year of service and thereafter, shall be classed as <br /> first grade patrolmen. The chief of police shall be the adminis <br /> trative head of the police department. It shall be the duty of <br /> the officers and- assistants in said department to perform the du- <br /> ties indicated by the name of their employment, and such other du- <br /> ties as the chief of police and commissioner of safety may author2 <br /> ize and, direct . <br /> Section 6: There shall be in the Police Court Department <br /> the following named officers and assistants, to-wit: one police <br /> judge and one police court clerk, who shall perform the duties . <br /> pertaining to their respective offices as provided in the Char- <br /> ter and Ordinances of the City of Everett. <br /> '•4 <br /> • <br />
