Water flowed down the alleyway behind the building at 3116 Rucker, and a substantial
amount of water entered the basement of this building. While owned by the Thorsen Family,LLC,this
building is occupied by the New&Again Thrift Shoppe. (The thrift store has a separate claim pending.)
Water flowed throughout the 4,000 sq. ft. basement and in some areas reached several feet deep. There was a
substantial amount of property belonging to the thrift store stored in the basement which required removal to
access the damaged structural areas. Although most of the walls are concrete,there are some sheetrock walls
that required removal. The mitigation to the building was the most complicated and costly part of this claim.
The restoration services were performed by the same company that performed the mitigation services,as well
as the furnace repair. The City's claims adjuster has thoroughly reviewed the charges and considers them
appropriate for the scope of the work. A settlement of$63,202.04 has been reached pending City Council
approval.
RECOMMENDATION(Exact action requested of Council):
Approve the Tort Claim Settlement with Thorsen Family,LLC, 3116 Rucker Avenue, in the amount of
$63,202.04.
99
