GENERAL APPLICATION NOTES
1. ISAT Application Notes, Engineered Bracing Tables and Detail Drawings comply with
the requirements of a spectrum of codes, standards and guidelines including but not
limited to the 2012 and 2015 International Building Codes, the 2013 and 2016
California Building Codes (including OSHPD Type II, Ill and Type 1 & IV with post
approval documents) and ASCE 7-10. Other recommended provisions and research
documents such as FEMA 302, FEMA 368, FEMA P750, Army Corp of Engineers TI-
809-04, Department of Defense UFC 3-310-04(6/13) and NFPA 13 are used as
references and supporting documents.
2. "Every structure, and portion thereof, including nonstructural components that are
permanently attached to structures and their supports and attachments, shall be
designed and constructed to resist the effects of earthquake motions in accordance
with ASCE 7 . . ." per IBC Section 1613.1.
3. Project seismic design parameters shall be defined on the plans or within the
construction documents by the Engineer of Record in accordance with IBC Section
1603.1.5, "Earthquake design data". Specific earthquake data used for nonstructural
seismic bracing design includes:
a. Risk Category
b. Mapped spectral response accelerations parameters, Ss and S1
c. Site Class
d. Design spectral response accelerations parameters, SDS and SD1
e.Seismic Design Category
4. Information within the ISAT Manual is intended only as a guideline for the design of
seismic restraint systems. It is not intended as the basis for the design of the
suspended utility nor is it intended to be all inclusive of every element of the suspended
utility. Certain elements of systems such as trapeze assemblies, support frames for
suspended equipment may require additional design, analysis and detailing by a
Registered Structural Engineer. Contact ISAT Technical Service for assistance.
5. All seismic bracing assemblies shall utilize ISAT supplied, proprietary, seismic brackets
unless noted otherwise. No Substitutions Allowed.
6. The Engineer of Record for the building shall review the ISAT attachment details and
loads to determine the suitability of the structure to accept such loads prior to
installation of the seismic bracing system.
7. Component Importance Factors are those assigned by the design team, not ISAT.
wiry
4_,International Seismic Application Technology
14848 Northam Street,La Mirada, CA 90638
877-999-4728 (Toll Free) 714-523-0845(fax)
www.isatsb.com
o Rev. 1
Q 10/01/14
s4710 sm Page
# s * 4.1
.9OCT‘39''
'
(OF CAO-Q 2012/15 IBC
