Section 7: Violations It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to erect, construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, improve, remove, convert or demolish, equip, use, occupy or maintain any building or structure or cause or permit the same to be done in violation of this code. Any person, firm or corporation violating any provision of this code shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punishable by a fine not to exceed one thousand dollars ($1,000) or by imprisonment in jail not to exceed ninety (90) days, or both fine and imprisonment. Each separate day or any portion thereof during which any violation of this code occurs or continues shall be deemed to constitute a separate offense and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punishable as herein provided. The issuance or granting of a permit or approval of plans and specifications shall not be deemed or construed to be a permit for, or an approval of, any violation of any of the provisions of this code or any other law or regulation. No permit presuming to give authority to violate or cancel the provisions of this code shall be valid, except insofar as the work or use which it authorized is lawful. Section 8: Permits and Inspections A. General. No building or structure regulated by this code shall be erected, constructed, enlarged, altered,repaired,moved, improved, removed, converted or demolished unless a separate permit for each building or structure has first been obtained from the building official in the manner and according to the applicable conditions prescribed in the Building Code. B. Fees. When a building permit is required by this code, the appropriate fees shall be paid as specified in the Building Code. C. Inspection. Buildings or structures within the scope of this code and all construction or work for which a permit is required shall be subject to inspection by the building official in accordance with and in the manner provided by this code and the Building Code. Section 9: Definitions A. General. For the purpose of this code, certain terms,phrases, words and their derivatives shall be construed as specified in either this chapter or as specified in the Building Code. Where terms are not defined, they shall have their ordinary accepted meanings within the context with which they are used. Webster's Third New International Dictionary of the English Language, Unabridged, copyright 1986, shall be considered as providing ordinary accepted meanings. Words used in the singular include the plural and the plural the singular. Words used in the masculine gender include the feminine and the feminine the masculine. B. Building Code. "Building Code"means the Building Code as adopted by the City. C. Building Official. "Building official" includes the Director of Code Compliance or designee except as it relates to: (1)non-residential buildings; or(2)the modification of the 4
