ORDINANCE NO. ________ <br />An ORDINANCE Adopting the State Fire Code, Amending EMC 16.005.030 and Repealing and Replacing <br />Chapter 16.03 EMC. <br />WHEREAS, <br />A.The Washington Legislature adopted the state fire code to provide for uniform standards in <br />construction and other life safety matters throughout the state. <br />B.The Washington State Legislature and the Washington State Building Code Council have recently <br />updated the state fire code, and such updates go into effect October 29, 2023 March 15, 2024. <br />C.The state fire code is in effect in all cities and counties in Washington; and <br />D.The City may adopt certain amendments to the state fire code to protect the public health, safety <br />and welfare. <br />E.The City Council finds that the adoption of the state fire code, together with local amendments, <br />serves to protect the public health, safety and welfare. <br />F.The City Council finds that the absence of the regulations adopted by this Ordinance would create <br />public harm and a public nuisance. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: <br />Section 1. EMC 16.005.030 is amended as follows, with underlined text added: <br />Adoption of codes. <br />The City of Everett hereby adopts the following codes by reference, which are incorporated <br />herein as fully as if set out at length herein: <br />A.The current edition of the International Building Code, published by the International Code <br />Council, Inc., as adopted by the Washington State Building Code Council in Chapter 51-50 WAC, <br />as now or hereafter amended. The following appendices are specifically adopted, as now or <br />hereafter amended: <br />1.Appendix G, Flood-Resistant Construction. <br />4007-24
