Robert M. Pride, LLC Consulting Engineer
November 3, 2021
Mr. Tony Slaughter
c/o Clint Russell
310 Seven Mile Place
Walla Walla, WA 98144
Re: Geotechnical Recommendations
Proposed Retaining Wall
1319 Pinkerton Avenue
Everett, Washington
Dear Mr. Russell,
This report provides recommendations for the new rockery retaining wall at the lower
side yard of the existing Slaughter residence at 1319 Pinkerton Avenue in Everett. It is
understood that the existing slope on the east side of the residence has experienced
surficial soil movement that requires permanent protection with a new wall. A site plan
with a cross section shows the location of this existing slope that will require installation
of an eight foot high rockery wall that will be about 8o feet in length to provide
permanent lateral slope stability.
Geotechnical Recommendations
On the basis of our site investigation it is recommended that the new wall extend up 7 to
8 feet above the toe of the existing slope. The base of the new rockery wall will be
supported by dense glacial soils that will be three to four feet below existing slope grades
as determined by the two test pits dug at the north and south end of the proposed wall
alignment. The upper fill soils as exposed in these test pits consisted of loose fill
classified as silty sands, and the underlying glacial soils were dark brown and dense silty
sands that will prove excellent support for the new rockery wall.
We recommended that the base rocks extend down two feet below the toe of this
existing slope to be supported on the dense glacial soils. A bearing value of 2000 psf
will be used for support of the base rocks, and the slope face of this wall should be
installed with a 1H:4V gradient from top to bottom.
Summary
The site plan and cross sections prepared by Clint Russell were reviewed and approved
for the proposed wall installation. Appropriate filed inspections will be required during
site excavation and installation of the wall system along with placement of the
compacted backfill up to final grade. A final field memo will be prepared covering the
wall installation details, and this memo will be submitted to the city of Everett.
Robert M.
