May 1, 2024 <br />5 <br /> <br />ACTION ITEM: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION – LEVY REGULAR PROPERTY TAXES <br /> <br />Moved by Council Member Rhyne, seconded by Council Member Vogeli, to adopt Resolution <br />No. 8021 providing for the submission of a proposition on the August 6, 2024, ballot authorizing <br />the City to levy regular property taxes in excess of the limitations of chapter 84.55 RCW; and <br />appointing three members each to the Voters Pamphlet Pro and Con Committees. <br /> <br />Discussion ensued regarding the voter’s pamphlet pro/con committees. The following members <br />are appointed to the the pro/con committee after a random draw: <br /> <br />Con Committee: Erin Knight, Carolyn Cox, and Terri Norris. <br />Pro Committee: Jordan Stephens, Jose Villalaz, and Justin Palachuk. <br /> <br />The following member of the public spoke: Scott Murphy <br /> <br />Moved by Council Member Schwab, seconded by Council Member Rhyne, to amend Sec. 3(a) <br />to the proposed resolution to end with the following language, “A priority will be placed on <br />public safety, including police and fire services, exploring the options to reopen the Forest Park <br />pool through a public private partnership, a full-time staff position to the Office of the <br />Neighborhoods, and extending library hours.” <br /> <br /> <br />Roll was called with all council members voting yes. <br /> <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />Moved by Council Member Rhyne, seconded by Council Member Vogeli, to amend the title to <br />Proposition 1 to “Levy Lid Lift for Public Safety and Essential Public Services.” <br /> <br /> <br />Roll was called with all council members voting yes, except Council Member Bader who abstained <br />and Council Member Tuohy who voted no. <br /> <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />Comments were made by Council members regarding the proposed resolution. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
