3 <br /> <br /> <br />G. Best Management Practices (BMPs). means schedules of activities, prohibitions of <br />practices, maintenance procedures, and other management practices to prevent or reduce <br />the pollution of "waters of the United States." BMPs also include treatment requirements, <br />operating procedures, and practices to control plant site runoff, spillage or leaks, sludge or <br />waste disposal, or drainage from raw material storage. <br /> <br />H. Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD). The quantity of oxygen utilized in the biochemical <br />oxidation of organic matter amenable to measurement by the methods described in <br />Standard Methods for the examination of Water and Wastewater, latest approved edition <br />or other methods approved by 40CFR136. <br /> <br />I. Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD). A measure of the oxygen consuming capacity of <br />inorganic and organic matter present in wastewater amenable to measurement by the <br />methods described in Standard Methods for the examination of Water and Wastewater, <br />latest approved edition or other methods approved by 40CFR136. COD is expressed as the <br />amount of oxygen consumed from a chemical oxidant in mg/L during a specific test. <br /> <br />J. City. The City of Everett, Washington. <br /> <br />K. Commissary Kitchen. A commercial kitchen facility used by third parties that provides <br />potable water supply, safe food storage and preparation equipment, and fixtures and <br />equipment required for proper wastewater disposal. <br /> <br />L. Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO). Any unplanned discharge from the combined sewer <br />system. <br /> <br />M. Composite Sample. The sample resulting from the combination of individual wastewater <br />samples taken at selected intervals based on an increment of either flow or time. <br /> <br />N. Day. Day shall be defined as a calendar day. <br /> <br />O. Director. The Public Works Director, or the Director’s duly authorized representative. <br /> <br />P. Discharge Authorization. A wastewater discharge permit authorizing users to discharge <br />wastewater to the Everett POTW. These permits are for non-Significant and/or non- <br />Categorical Industrial Users requiring a control mechanism. <br /> <br />Q. Domestic Sewage. Domestic sewage means the liquid and water borne wastes derived from <br />ordinary living processes, free from industrial wastes, and of such character to permit <br />satisfactory disposal, without special treatment, into the POTW. <br /> <br />R. Domestic User (Residential User). Any person who contributes, causes, or allows the <br />contribution of wastewater into the City POTW that is of a similar volume and/or chemical <br />make-up as that of a residential dwelling unit. Discharges from a residential dwelling unit <br />typically include up to 100 gallons per capita per day at 300 mg/L of BOD and TSS.
