0 •
Terri Jorgenson
From: Drew Martin
Sent: Monday,January 10, 2022 4:22 PM
To: Terri Jorgenson
Subject: City of Everett Permit Services: 5109 Chinook Drive (PW2111-023) - First Building
Review
Here are Building comments to include in the PW review letter.
Comments:
1. The height of the walls and loading conditions(e.g., close proximity of wall tiers, etc.) require a building permit,
per IBC Section 105.2 (i.e.,work is not exempt). A geotechnical evaluation and report should be performed per
IBC Sections 1803.1 and 1803.6. The report recommendations should include but are not limited to:
a. General design criteria, including but not limited to surcharge loads behind the walls, maximum soil
slope behind the walls, wall foundation preparation and minimum bearing strength, and drainage
requirements.
b. Evaluation of the wall loads on successive downhill tiers.
c. Evaluation of the upper wall tiers on the existing rockery.
d. Designs for the different wall configurations, including walls requiring supplemental geogrid
reinforcement.
2. The construction drawings should include project specific sections through the full height of the wall system,
including the existing rockery. See IBC Section 107.2.1.
3. The minimum spacing between wall tiers should be specified in the drawings, including the existing rockery. See
IBC Section 107.2.1.
4. The drawings should be sealed and signed by a professional engineer licensed in the state of Washington. See
IBC Section 107.1, and RCW Sections 18.43.010, 18.43.020, and 18.43.070. If preferred by the design team, the
geotechnical engineer may elect to serve as the engineer-as-record (EOR)for the drawings prepared by the
landscape architect.
Please let me know if you have questions.
Drew Martin, P.E.,S.E.
imAssociate Engineer—Commercial Plans Examiner I Permit Services
425.257.8810 13200 Cedar Street, 2nd Floor, Everett,WA 98201
EVERETT Phone Hours: M/W/T:8 am -12 pm & 1 pm—3 pm;Tu: 1:OOpm-3:OOpm
everettwa.gov/permits I Facebook I Twitter
Note:Emails and attachments sent to and from the City of Everett are public records and may be subject to disclosure pursuant to the Public
Records Act.
1
